So I went to New York this weekend in order to celebrate my birthday for the second time — yes, I do that. Yes, there were other people who came to “my” party who actually had a birthday that week.
And yes, I obviously needed a new dress (for anyone who hasn’t caught on, I do not subscribe to the minimalist mindset).
While there, I had fervent dreams about getting wonderful, truly perfect, incredible New York blogger photos.
Enter my best friend. Aka the asshole.
Anyone who has tried to take blogger – like photos knows one thing: they are the most unbelievably narcissistic photos you will take. Ever. Posing in the weird ways to make it seem ~aRtsY~ and oh-so-candid actually makes you look like an effing idiot. Especially when you’re new to the game, like me. My so-called best friend definitely agreed with the idiot thing, and could not stop laughing as I tried to get the pictures taken. Doubled over, hiccuping laughter.
We ended up with these no natural light ones that then had to be “exposed” to death on my mac in order to be passably decent… I couldn’t work up the nerve to ask her again.
As you can see, I’m still clinging to the leopard and black style this winter. And enter leather paneling, my (and everyone else’s) favorite trend of the season. Something about that sexy leather panel makes me feel like I own the world, but I can still manage to worm my way out of the dress after a night of dancing.
I recommend NOT trying that with leather pants. Especially if you have a “glistening” problem (I decline further commentary on this).
And while the dress is my “I run my birthday” piece, again, I have to brag about the leopard print. That scarf was purchased two weeks ago, and has been worn with at least six outfits since. It makes my work clothing fun and playful… and makes my “sexier” pieces more stylish (note the quotation… it’s hard to be sexy when you like to randomly do the worm).
