I want to start by saying how much I love Emily’s outfit here. Like, literally — in the truest, least sorority girl definition of literally — love. I had an entire post written out all about me, and had to scratch that as soon as she sent over her pictures.
To explain my immediate heart palpitations, I should note that a post-grad obsession of mine has been playing with dark colors. Originally from Florida, and then from a school that firmly believes Foxfield is more important than Thanksgiving, I’ve maintained a lot of brights and whites in my wardrobe. Then I moved to Baltimore (which I still refer to as the North), and suddenly I’m wandering around my favorite stores like a lost puppy, unsure of every decision I make. And how the hell to make my Florida girl self conform to a dark and cold place. So I’ve been clinging to black. Black on black. Black on camel. Black on red.
Then Emily sends me this.
Black on emerald??
Be still, my heart.
It’s so perfectly stylish I could cry (thank god the internet doesn’t show watermarks). What a little brat.
It is edgier than I would wear to work, but pull the hair into a chic bun, and trade out the open toed pumps for a pair of pointy-toe black heels (in my head, I see patent), and you can make this va-va voom something more subtle and sophisticated.
Or, you know, you could just rock everyone’s socks off and leave it.
