Green & Glittery

DSC_4782

Now that we’ve sprung forward, I think I can officially say… Happy March, everyone!

And Em and I decided to show some of that spring spirit with our glittery greens.

It finally reached 50s in Baltimore today, but looking at the Tampa throwbacks is making me wish I was somewhere sunny and 75. At the very least, though, the spring partying has begun (thank God).

And in order to keep up with the trends, we felt the need to post our take on St. Patty’s day colors.

Holiday theme dressing has always been one of my favorite activities (and you can bank on the fact that I’m the obnoxious pincher on St. Patrick’s day), but with work, its a little more difficult to remain appropriate (green tshirts with slogans like “Magically Delicious” don’t really fly anymore… although, they really shouldn’t. Ever.)

So it became even more fun to put together something still relatively  obnoxious (helloooo sequins), yet still adult. Because I’ve been told I am one.

In addition to the holiday, this post was particularly fun because it was actually the first post Em and I did together while I was home. And having her mom photograph us was incredible — I can definitely see where Emily gets her sense of design. It was so nice to have someone tell me EXACTLY what to do to make my pictures better (as I have mentioned, the photography part of blogging is the part I firmly dislike).

At one point I was holding one of the branches in these pictures, and she quickly directed me to put my arm down due to “too much pit”.

I’m not gonna lie, hearing Em’s mom tell me to conceal my armpit was a highlight of the day (when WAS the last time I shaved?!?) and I almost lost it. I would’ve been on the ground laughing for the rest of our photoshoot if Emily hadn’t noticed me about to decompose. The camera and Emily have a very solid relationship, and she was able to hold my gaze and keep me calm enough to get in a few decent pictures.

Then Em did her thing and the camera loved her, and I did my best to copy.

Ah, well, you win some, you lose some, and  I won enough of them to get some pictures up.

So I finally went back home to Tampa. And after 7 degree temperatures and mountains of snow, it couldn’t have been a better treat.

I started with tanning, promptly turned myself into a lobster, and then dragged my little sister to the mall. For a long time. And apparently the diva gene is not shared between us, because after the first hour she wanted to kill me. By the fifth, I think she wanted to kill herself.

I watched a light die in her eyes before I finally allowed us to leave… and then I made her make pictures of me.

Trust me, she loves me.

Regardless, it was incredibly successful mall trip. I found SO many things that I wanted for spring, and impulse control reached an all time low. And with the weather warming (burning) my skin, I absolutely had to pick up a couple of things that I could rock while home…

Naturally, I had to figure out how to rock it when back in Baltimore. And, naturally, I turned to black in order to make this a possibility.

I saw this dress in Urban Outfitters styled similarly to how I’m wearing it first — a light scarf and booties. When I decided to make it winter-wearable, I took Emily’s advice and stole a chunky black sweater from my sister’s wardrobe. While I would go ahead and admit this is in no way warm enough for Baltimore, I will say that this look can be imitated with most of the swing dresses at Urban… and it is so much more comfortable than the jeans I’ve been trapped in for three months.

I’ve decided something — freedom feels like the sun.
